REVIEW: Here Comes Glitterboy by Holloway Holiday

A wonderful splash of colour; ‘Glitter Boy’ is a return to form for slushies and school-crushes. The record’s themes of ‘shouty’ adolescence and independence are a gratifying trip to Helena and I’s 2012 days.

Oozing with character and oomph: these snappy lead drums are not to be fucked with. Expertly complemented by Taylor’s aggressive drumming style, together they evoke an endearing and youthful passion. Absolutely delightful!

“I’m drowning in hellogoodbyes” - vocal outcries of everyday indifference are thrown around left and right. Seemingly inspired by pop-punk and emo bands (All Time Low, My Chem, Paramore), Holloway Holiday embraces the positive energy of straight-forward lyrics to achieve their own personal catharsis. The melodies are well contrasted against the a-tonal instrumentation. Drums, rhythm guitars and synths easily transport the record’s message, especially when accompanied by Louis’ bouncy lead vocals.

While ‘Glitter Boy’ is a defining example of pop-punk triumph, its themes of “potent sarcasm and slight social anxiety” could have been explored further. The overall production is smooth and catchy: easy listening for summer car trips. Just long enough for excellent replay value \ just short enough to keep you coming back for more.

We hope future releases take a more ponderous look into teenage self-discovery and further develop a young community that get up, do shit, and take notice.

We eagerly await what’s to come.
