My Cosmic Girl
My Cosmic Girl, is a dynamic duo from Wellington, New Zealand, with a modern take on the sounds of the 60 and 70s, blending together the finest aging trends of these decades. My Cosmic Girl refines this style with a gorgeous, modern sheen, avoiding gimmicks and paying homage to their influences. This year My Cosmic Girl is focusing their energy on writing an ep and curating new ideas for future projects. The group is comprised of Ella Doty and Elvis Arthur.
Growing up, Ella was surrounded by music. Her household chimed with the sounds of Carole King and The Rolling Stones, but it was the talent of Taylor Swift that became her primary reason to pick up the guitar. Later she would discover Country/Americana/folk artists such as Madison Cunningham, Faye Webster, and Phoebe Alice Lou who have influenced the way she writes music to this day. Ella describes their sound as “timeless” and strives for the same in her own music.
Elvis shares Ella's love for strong female, Indie/folk artists. He cites Tori Amos, Joni Mitchell, and Bic Runga as being major influences on his piano and writing. Outside of My Cosmic Girl, Elvis’ playing style is much more piano-centric and packed with complexity. When working within the duo, he describes himself as being like Nicky Hopkins; a session pianist, who has worked with the likes of The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, and The Who, providing an integral part of their respective sounds. This is apparent when Elvis enters a musical dialogue with Ella, contributing nuances and phrases signature to My Cosmic Girl’s sound.
Thy Duo have just released their debut single "Frenchie" on all major streaming platforms.
